THE MODERN LEFT INTERVIEWS BRIAN MOORE AFTER THE ELECTION
by J.D. Thompson, November 26, 2008

Why Socialism? Can you explain for those who aren't familiar with the platform you ran on?

Brian Moore: Because we want to achieve a radical systemic change of economic systems that will better serve the common good, and bring a more egalitarian and quality life than under capitalism. Under capitalism, only a small elite of owners, senior company officers and investors reap the rewards and profits, and they do it on the backs of the common every day worker. They do not share the benefits with those who have worked the most. READ MORE...

Brian Moore Sends Congratulatory Letter to President-Elect Obama

Hopes Chicagoan Will Re-distribute Wealth and Share Benefits Equally

SPRING HILL [Tampa Bay Area], FLORIDA, November 14 — Brian P. Moore, the Socialist Party's candidate for President, sent a congratulatory letter to President-Elect, Barack Obama today, to his Chicago headquarters, wishing him the best in his four-year Democratic Administration and hopes for the "change you have promised to improve the nation's economy and general well-being."

Moore said to the president-elect that " Your campaign was hard-fought, and victory well-earned." The 65-year-old Moore, a semi-retired executive health care recruiter from Spring Hill, Florida, indicated that he [Moore] was the "true Socialist in the race," and that he sincerely hoped that "you [Obama] will be willing to make the type of changes that will achieve a meaningful re-distribution of wealth, and a sharing in the benefits equally for all Americans."

The Socialist candidate said that he, and his party, "would be of any assistance in developing new ideas and programs for the country," and that "we are at your service." Moore, and his Vice-President, Stewart Alexander, were on the ballot in eight states and official write-in candidates in twenty-two other states, thereby passing the 270 electoral threshold, theoretically enabling them to gain the presidency, under different conditions.

In his congratulatory statement, the Socialist candidate said that it was a "pleasure competing against you despite the limiting nature of the Socialist Party’s fewer resources, lack of fair state ballot access and minimal national media recognition." However, Moore wrote the president-elect that he believed The Socialist Party's ideas and programs, advocated and popularized in the first half of the last century, under the inspiring leadership of Eugene V. Debs and Norman M. Thomas, "led to the various social programs and human rights that now make up the fabric of our democratic society."

The athletic and robust six foot socialist candidate, concluded his remarks to Mr. Obama stating that as Socialists, and as Americans, he earnestly hoped that Obama "will break from the safety of the status quo" and "follow in the grand tradition of men like Debs and Thomas in fighting for economic and social justice for all of the people of the United States, as well as our fellow citizens across the globe."

Moore included his telephone number and e-mail address should the president-elect wish to communicate to discuss ideas with him and his radical political party.

Moore, who was brought up in California in a large family with a strong tradition of an Irish-American heritage, and a practicing Catholic religion, concluded his complimentary remarks by saying that "With deep respect for the position and mantle you are about to assume, we remain your humble servants as mutual citizens."

LOUISANA APPEALS DECISION THAT PUT BARR ON THE BALLOT
Thursday, September 25th, 2008

On September 25, Louisiana filed a notice of appeal with the 5th circuit, in the case over whether Bob Barr should be on the ballot. The issue is the deadline, and its relationship to the bad weather that closed the Secretary of State’s office during the first week in September. Since the state is appealing, Brian Moore (who, unlike Bob Barr, had not been given any relief by the U.S. District Court), can automatically cross-appeal in the same proceedings in the 5th circuit. The U.S. District Court still hasn’t issued its written opinion, so it is difficult to analyze all the issues.

SOCIALIST PARTY USES OBSCURE METHOD TO GET ON IOWA BALLOT
August 18th, 2008

This year, the Socialist Party used an almost-forgotten method for getting its presidential candidate on the Iowa ballot. Iowa gives statewide minor party and independent candidates a choice of either submitting 1,500 signatures, or attracting 250 voters to a meeting. The Democrats voted for the Patriot Act, the Military Tribunal Bill, turned a blind eye to Bush's Executive Orders on privacy issues, will not impeach, allowed rendition and torture, started the Iraq blockade under Bill  Clinton, and refused to speak out against a prohibition of federal funding for abortions for low-income women.  Plus, the Democrats have pandered to the black race thereby polarizing a country and hurting the cause against racism.

Four years ago, as the sentiment against George W. Bush’s administration mounted, the entire left-wing spectrum hung on tight to the coattails of John Kerry, grasping for dear life. Critics called it the “Anybody but Bush” syndrome, but it should have been more aptly coined “Nobody but Kerry.”

Brian Moore Wins Injunctive Relief Against Ohio Petition Restriction
Ballot Access News Edited by Richard Winger
June 2nd, 2008

On June 2, Brian Moore (Socialist Party presidential candidate) won injunctive relief from U.S. District Court in Columbus, against an Ohio law that requires independent candidate petition circulators to be registered voters in Ohio. Moore v Brunner, southern dist., 2:08cv-224.

Although the law has not yet been declared unconstitutional, while that part of the case is pending, any adult may circulate an independent candidate petition in Ohio. Ohio tried to persuade the judge that even if he issued an injunction against the registration requirement, he should still let the state bar out-of-state residents from circulating an independent candidate petition. But the judge rejected the state’s plea. Although a theoretical in-state residency requirement might be constitutional, the judge said, Ohio has no such law on the books. It only has the law requiring registration for circulators. Thanks to law professor Mark R. Brown, who is doing this case pro bono.

A bundled-up Brian Moore stood in the parking lot of a strip mall soliciting signatures from shoppers. Moore needed 1,000 signatures from Vermont voters to get on the ballot as a Socialist Party presidential candidate in that state.

Brian Moore, Socialist Party Presidential Candidate, Sues Ohio Over Petitioning Restriction

March 7th, 2008 from "Ballot Access News" by Richard Winger
--- Click here to respond to this article

On March 7, Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore filed a lawsuit in federal court against an Ohio restriction on petitioning. Moore v Brunner, case number not known yet. The lawsuit attacks an Ohio law that makes it illegal for someone who is not a registered voter in Ohio, to circulate for an independent candidate.

Ralph Nader had filed a similar lawsuit in 2004, but the federal courts in Ohio refused to adjudicate the issue for his lawsuit, since the 2004 judges believed that Nader had used out-of-state petitioners, in defiance of the law. Moore won’t have that problem, since he hasn’t started petitioning in Ohio.

Ohio law, taken as a whole, is irrational. It is legal for out-of-staters to circulate a new party petition in Ohio, so there can’t possibly be any defense for imposing residency rules for circulators for independent candidates. Furthermore, Ohio even forces the independent candidate circulators not only to be residents, but to be registered voters in Ohio. In 1999 the U.S. Supreme Court had struck down laws requiring circulators to be registered voters.

William Wharton is pushing to get Brian qualified as a "write-in" candidate on the NY State Ballot due to NY requiring 10,000 signatures to qualify. Read his message below:

Tired of voting rich and living poor?

Are you looking to help build an alternative to the two-party monopoly?

Interested in ideas such as wealth re-distribution, national healthcare and global peace?

Then Brian Moore might be your candidate. True, you will not see Brian on the Presidential debates and heck, due to restrictive access laws, he is not even on the ballot in New York State. Yet his campaign addresses many of the issues that poor and working class New Yorker’s face every day. While mainstream candidates paper over these problems with empty promises or proposals to expand the control of large corporations, the Moore 2008 campaign provides concrete proposals to address the growing class inequalities in our city.

The Socialist Party USA (NYC) will be running a grassroots write-in campaign as part of Brian Moore’s national campaign. Volunteers are needed to help
develop this effort. Fresh ideas about outreach, public relations and educational materials are encouraged. Helping build this campaign will provide
thousands of New Yorker’s with a chance to have their vote represent their material interests.

A Christmas and New Year's Message from Brian Moore

"Peace on Earth and Good Will toward men" is the universal message that we all should be conveying in our families and communities in light of the world's present day problems.

The Socialist Party's motivating philosophy of humanitarism and a strong belief in egalitarianism shines forth in comparison to the faltering economic system now operating in America and around the world based on greed, exploitation and a blind rationality to the free market mindset.

War, poverty, illness, unrewarding and uncompensated jobs and a widening gap between the rich and the poor exists at the start of this new century. It strikes a resounding sense of despair, anxiety, loss of hope and worry amongst humankind.

A renewed sense of hope, based on our political party's rich heritage of fairness and equality amongst workers and citizens, is what should urge our spirits on in the beginning of this 21st century.

In this spirit, we urge our fellow man not to give up, not to despair, but to rekindle its sense of hope as a new beginning for change in the year 2008 and for the immediate future.

Socialist Party Ticket is Moore-Alexander
October 20th, 2007

The Socialist Party nominated Brian Moore of Florida for president, and Stewart Alexander of California for vice-president, at the St. Louis convention.
